Overview

Schema.org provides a way to add semantic markup to web pages. It is a community effort supported by main search engines, and is already widely implemented across the web.

Currently, biological content types like pathways and proteins are not well represented in schema.org. Therefore, BioSchemas.org is working on specifications to improve the description of generic types in life sciences and to bring forward new biological data types types to schema.org. Additionally, BioSchemas.org aims to enable data findability and interoperability in life sciences. It does this by encouraging people in life sciences to use schema.org markup, so that their websites and services contain consistently structured information.

In this workshop, you will learn about BioSchemas.org, its approach and its principles. Focus will be on practical hands-on sessions where developers learn how to annotate their resources using BioSchemas.org specifications.

This workshop is supported by ELIXIR and is co-organised with experts from BioSchemas.org.
