2023 marked 25 years of our commitment to building on life science data to pave the way for a better future.

In addition to celebrating this milestone with our Swiss-wide community, we unveiled this year our new brand identity and website to reflect the organization we have become and how we see our future.

Continuing our positive impact on society, 2023 saw us enter new collaborations, including European projects on leveraging data for discoveriespreventing of obesity, and improving plant climatic resilience. We also kept catalysing open research data practices through a range of projects, including through the creation of a national curriculum for data stewards. A great edition of the Basel Computational Biology Conference also gathered scientists from around the world to celebrate 20 years of the event.

Looking ahead, we have set ambitious objectives for SIB’s next chapter in meeting the most pressing challenges of humanity. Among these goals: unlocking the potential of -omics data for better health, remaining at the forefront of the current AI revolution through cutting-edge data science and the high-quality open software and databases we develop, and increasing our contribution to environmental conservation efforts.

As we all come together to celebrate at this special time, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for a fantastic holiday season and a happy new year ahead.
