Overview
This 2-day intermediate course is targeted at life scientists or bioinformaticians who are already using the R statistical software in practice, and want to extend their knowledge.
Topics covered include, among others:
- Objects and Data structures
- Operations and Logical operations
- Missing data
- Data manipulation: Concatenation, Sorting, Data subsetting, Apply
- Customisation of graphics
- Conditional instructions, loops
- Functions
- KnitR/markdown
Learning objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- have a better understanding of the objects and data structures used in R
- use and apply different functions for data manipulation
- use the options for better R graphics output
- make conditional statement and build loops
Prerequisites
Knowledge / competencies:
- Participants must be familiar with the R statistical analysis package prior to attending the course.
- Participants who have followed the First Steps with R SIB course should have sufficient knowledge in R, provided that they have regularly practiced after the course and that they are comfortable using the software.
Technical: A WiFi-equipped laptop with latest R version installed.

The registration fees for academics are 100 CHF. This includes course content material and coffee breaks. Participants from non-academic institutions should contact us before application.
